Milt Jackson, nicknamed “Bags,” was an American jazz vibraphonist known for his smooth, swinging sound and standout work with the Modern Jazz Quartet. Throughout his career, he frequently teamed up with leading hard bop and post-bop musicians, leaving a lasting impact on the genre. Recognized for his emotional playing style, Jackson set himself apart through his unique use of harmony and rhythm, often showcasing his love for slow, twelve-bar blues. In addition to the vibraphone, he occasionally displayed his talents of singing and playing the piano.
